The firm of loss assessors began trading as Des Owens & Company (Owens McCarthy) in 1985. Des’ background in Architecture and Construction had convinced him of the need for professional insurance claims representation for policyholders. The Company built a strong reputation for excellent customer service and insurance claim results, enabling it to grow nationwide.

In 2005, Des Owens joined with Brian McCarthy (Chairman of FEXCO Group) and Owens McCarthy grew quickly to become Ireland’s largest firm of Public Loss Assessors.

John O’Donoghue

Our Managing Director, John O’Donoghue, previously worked with GAB Robins Loss Adjusters (now Sedgwick) and FBD Insurance. John is a graduate of UCC’s School of Law, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Diploma Member of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, and a Certified Insurance Professional. John manages OMC Claims overall business and the excellence and consistency-of-outcome for our clients.

Declan Feely

Declan is an experienced and highly qualified insurance professional with more than forty years’ experience dealing with underwriting, sales and claims functions. He has expert knowledge of policy coverage, claims procedures and the insurance industry, and has settled large complex losses up to €50,000,000.

He is a strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills. Declan has worked as both a Loss Adjuster and a Loss Assessor. He has provided solutions for both domestically and internationally based clients in various sectors including Residential and Commercial property, Construction, Engineering, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Packaging, Energy & Power Generation, Telecoms, Waste Recycling & Processing, Agri Food, services, Product’s Liability, Environmental and Marine losses.

Declan is a Director and Head of Major and Complex Loss at OMC Claims. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (FCILA) and holds a European Loss Adjusting Expert qualification (FUEDI-ELAE) as well as a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance.

Seamus O’Leary 

As a Director, Seamus leads OMC’s Technical Claims Team applying his experience and background as a Quantity Surveyor and Loss Adjuster. He has hands-on claims management experience and consults on complex insurance claims for commercial and individual clients alike. Seamus has previously worked for Bowen Construction as a site-based Quantity Surveyor on multi-million-pound projects, transitioning to Sedgwick in 2000 to join their team of Loss Adjusters adjusting claims for every insurer. He is a holds a degree in Quantity Surveying and is a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland.

Glenn Owens

Glenn is OMC Claims’ Operations Director and has a dedicated role in formulating and resolving complex business interruption claims in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Glenn has more than twenty years’ experience and previously worked with FEXCO Group before joining OMC Claims in 2007. Glenn holds a Degree in Finance and Diploma in Construction Economics.

Brian Monaghan

With more than thirty-five years’ experience in underwriting, loss adjusting and loss assessing, Brian has unrivalled claims knowledge and the insurance market generally. Having previously worked with Hibernian Insurance (now AVIVA) and Thornton & Partners as a Branch Manager, Brian joined OMC Claims in 2007.

As a Director of OMC Claims he uses his expertise and strategic skills to navigate and guide policyholders through complex household and commercial claims. He advises clients on all aspects of loss including prevention, policy coverage, liability, negotiation, and settlement of claims.

John Davis

John started his career with Church & General (now Allianz) in 1990, gaining valuable underwriting and property claims experience before moving on Cunningham Lindsey (now Sedgwick) and Davies Ireland where he was a Loss Adjuster and Director of Technical & Complex losses.

John joined OMC Claims in November 2018 and now advises policyholders on all aspects of loss, including prevention, loss mitigation, values at risk, policy coverage and liability. John has particular expertise in the management of myriad commercial and industrial complex property losses. 

John is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner (ACII), a Chartered Loss Adjuster (ACILA) and is also a Fellow of the International Federation of Adjusting Associations (FIFAA).

Jim Gaw

Jim is one of Ireland’s most respected and pre-eminent Loss Adjusters.  He started his career over forty years ago with National Employers Mutual. Jim was a Director of OSG Loss Adjusters (now Sedgwick) managing complex losses before joining OMC Claims in 2008. Jim is a Member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland.

Catherine Cox

Catherine joined OMC Claims in 2016 following at a fifteen-year career as a Loss Adjuster with Ireland’s pre-eminent loss adjusting firm. Catherine is now a Loss Assessor at OMC Claims and represents policyholder interests while settling difficult and complex claims, both commercially and domestically. She has expertise in Building Reinstatement Valuations from large apartment block developments to smaller multiple occupancy units. She has recently managed a large portfolio of business interruption claims arising from the Covid19 pandemic. She is a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland and holds a BSc in Estate Management from the University of Ulster and a Diploma in Loss Adjusting (C.DIP. LA).

Karol Gregan

Karol has deep sectoral knowledge and a thorough understanding of the domestic and commercial claims markets. She had handled claims for every major insurer during her fourteen-year loss adjusting career, before joining OMC Claims in 2014. Karol represents her clients interests throughout the household, agricultural and commercial spheres, delivering consistently superb results.

Karol was centrally involved in negotiating settlements on behalf of policyholders that had business interruption claims during the recent Covid19 pandemic. Karol holds the Certified Diploma in Loss Adjusting from the Insurance Institute of Ireland (C.Dip. LA).

Eoin McSwiney

Eoin has over fifteen years experience in the insurance industry, having joined OMC Claims in 2008 following productive spells with Hibernian Insurance and GAB Robins Loss Adjusters in Dublin and Cork. Since then, Eoin has dealt with all types of property insurance claims, from storm damage, to fires and floods. Eoin applies his experience, technical knowledge, and skills to complex and technical insurance claims for commercial businesses and individual policy holders. Eoin holds a degree in Insurance and Risk Management from the University of Limerick alongside a Certified Diploma in Loss Adjusting.

Martin O’Brien

Martin has more than 30 years experience in the Construction Industry in Ireland. He is a Member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. He holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying and a Certified Diploma in Loss Adjusting.

Following a several years on site, Martin spent fourteen years working as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor on a broad range of projects including commercial, industrial, leisure, healthcare, domestic etc. while specialising in property insurance losses. Martin then transitioned to Owens McCarthy to work on property insurance losses full time in 2009.

His cost and quantification background and broad experience provide the ideal skillset needed in the property claim sector.

Martin handles all complex, technical commercial and domestic losses in the South East region and provides Quantity Surveying expertise to colleagues across OMC Claims.

Seamus O’Donohoe

Seamus has over twenty years’ experience as a Loss Adjuster and Loss Assessor. He began his career as a Plant and Machinery Surveyor with Lisney Henry Butcher before moving to GAB Robins (now Sedgwick) in 1997, handling claims in their Dundalk, Waterford, and Dublin offices.

Seamus joined OMC Claims in 2013 as a Loss Assessor and specialises in technical claims. He advocates for policyholders and negotiates all types of commercial and domestic property loss claims. He has a special interest in oil and subsidence claims with clients in a variety of industry sectors. He has a Degree in Valuation Surveying, a Diploma in Insurance (Claims) and a Diploma in Loss Adjusting.

Mervyn Owens

Mervyn is the manager of OMC Claims North Cork office based in Mallow, County Cork. His background in Quantity Surveying and Construction Science from L.I.T. provides his clients with a unique insight into insurance reinstatement projects. Mervyn expertly and consistently negotiates and settles domestic, agricultural, and commercial claims, producing exceptional outcomes for his customers.  Mervyn also focusses on Value at Risk surveys, advising policyholders as to the level of insurance they require for their constructed assets. He holds an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Construction from the South-Eastern Louisiana University and has completed the Certified Diploma in Loss Adjusting.

Mark Quinn

Mark has over thirty years’ experience in the Property Industry specialising in Construction and Project Management. He is a Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) and joined OMC Claims in 2013 as a Senior Loss Assessor.  Mark handles claims in the Mid-West area and is based in our office in Tipperary.

Mark is an active member of the Insurance Institute and has served as Deputy President of the Limerick Insurance Institute in 2018/2019, as the President in 2019/2020 and is currently the Vice President since 2020.

Patrick Cox

Patrick Cox is a Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) with more than seventeen years’ experience in property restoration and loss adjusting. He joined OMC Claims in 2021 having worked at Sedgwick Ireland for several years, adjusting technical domestic and commercial claims. Patrick brings his unique expertise and experience to OMC Claims, leveraging his inside knowledge of the insurance industry to deliver excellent results on behalf of policyholders. He is a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland and holds various certifications in Fire Restoration, Water Damage Restoration and Applied Structural Drying.

Stephen Nolan

Stephen joined our team of specialists in 2021 after an extensive career in the insurance industry as a Loss Adjuster and Director, most recently with Thornton & Partners. Stephen provides expertise in negotiating major and complex losses and advocates for all stakeholders on a national and global platform. Stephen was responsible for the management of major and complex losses during his time at Thornton & Partners. Stephen is a Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) and Loss Adjuster (Insurance Institute of Ireland). He holds an Advanced Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA). He is an Incorporated Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and is also an Associate Member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Rob O’Brien

Rob joined our team in September 2022. A well known personality to both brokers and insurers across the island of Ireland his focus has been on Customer Service, Relationship Management, Sales, Marketing and Process Improvement. Rob’s insurance career began at AXA Insurance where he held a number of roles and he joined the team at OMC following a successful spell with ARAG Legal. Rob is a Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) with more than 20 years in Financial Services. A graduate of NUI Maynooth, he is an accomplished long distance runner and proud Kildare man.

Diarmuid McNulty

Diarmuid McNulty joined OMC in 2023 as senior Loss Assessor and is recognised as an industry leader with 37 years’ experience in loss assessing. He is an expert in major and complex commercial claims and has extensive technical knowledge of disaster recovery, business interruption and financial management in commercial losses where additional expenditure and increased-cost-of-working are key to clients’ claims.  He was appointed as a director of Balcombes Claims Management in 1992. He was Elected member of the Institute of Public Loss Assessors in 1999 and has been a member of the Insurance Institute of Dublin since 1987.

Jim Flannery

Jim joined OMC in May 2023 as Brand Ambassador and he is responsible for business development and promotion of the company.

Jim has specialised in Loss Assessing since 1999, as a Director of Balcombes Claims Management and before that worked for Irish National/Eagle Star/Zurich Insurance since 1980. He has extensive knowledge of policy wordings and has a deep understanding of insurance policy cover and claims processes. 

Jim attained Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) qualification in 1984 and is a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland. He has lectured in the Chartered Insurance Institute examination syllabus and has delivered CPD Lectures in relation to property damage and business interruption claims. Jim was a founding member and has served as President of the Irish Claims Consultants Association. 

Tara Eastwood Lyons

Tara is a qualified solicitor who began her career working in commercial litigation and has experience dealing with litigation matters in the area of insurance. She then carried out an MSc in Quantity Surveying and insurance exams to qualify as a Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP) and worked as an insurance loss assessor for four years in Dublin combining her legal experience and knowledge of insurance.
